The Original Stop On The Dalesway Walk

The Sportsman's has been providing accommodation for the weary traveller since 1745 and for the Dalesway walker since the walk was devised. We are members of the Dalesway association and hold all relevant insurance, fire and environmental health certificates.

We are situated on the Dalesway and the Sportsman's sign is a welcome sight as you round the corner just below Stonehouse bridge. Guests are allowed access to rooms from 4pm on the day of arrival and a table is automatically reserved for residents.

Packed lunches can be provided and vegetarian breakfast alternatives are no problem (let us know the night before).

Contrary to what you may read in some publications we have always provided meals for non residents, but to limited space we do not reserve tables for non residents and on busy nights there may be some delay as our residents take priority.

The walk to Cowgill from either Buckden or Hubberholme is one of the most demanding stretches of the walk, refreshments can not be relied on at Cammhouses so it is advisable to take a packed lunch and liquid refreshment with you.

OUR ACCOMMODATION IS ON A BED & BREAKFAST BASIS AND ACCESS TO ROOMS  IS FROM 4 PM ON DAY OF ARRIVAL

We do not have a dedicated drying room but will try our best to get your kit dry. Boots are not allowed upstairs

We do not open ALL DAY and at quiet times we reserve the right to close the bar earlier than the stated 3pm.

Those who are only walking from Ribblehead please bear this in mind.
